Electric vehicles are coming, and fast. Some believe that by 2030 more than half of the cars on American roads will be fueled at a the charger rather than the pump. But while plenty of people are ready to make the transition, one obstacle in many places is a nascent or even nonexistent charging infrastructure.
In Virginia Beach the situation is much the same as it is elsewhere. We may have our very own wind farm going up just over the horizon, but it won’t be very useful to an electric motorist without the charging stations to go with it.
The city’s Department of Public Works wants to address the issue, and the first step is creating a short survey to gather information on how residents actually use their vehicles.
The survey is 22 simple questions about your living, parking, and commuting habits, and your knowledge about and interest in EV’s. Civic engineers will use this information to help formulate their plan. It only takes about five minutes, so take a little time to help the city plan for the (near) future.
And if you’re still in the mood to help shape the landscape, the Rudee Loop survey has been extended, and will now end on Jan 29. Help the city decide which of the four development options it should select to improve the southern end of the strip.
