Virginia Beach is one of the happiest places in the country, according to a new report from personal finance website SmartAsset.
They compared the 200 largest American cities using 13 relevant factors grouped into three categories: personal finances, well-being, and quality of life.
The city with the happiest people this year is the aptly named Sunnyvale, CA. The Golden State dominated the top of the list, occupying six of the top ten spots. Virginia is one of the three other states represented in the top ten, with Arlington listed as the second happiest place in the country not far behind Sunnyvale (94.74 vs 93.59 on the ranking index).
Virginia Beach comes in at 22nd on the list. The city had the second-highest score in the quality of life category, behind Sunnyvale (100 vs 97.01). The quality of life category looked at five metrics: dining, bars, and entertainment establishments; adults living below the poverty level; marriage rate; average commute time; and violent crime rate.
Alexandria, VA was just outside the top ten at position 13, and our neighbor Raleigh, NC is on the list at 19.
