House Bill 66 was signed by the governor today, making Virginia the first states to cap the monthly costs of the treatment. Starting in 2021 providers will not be able to charge more than $50 a month for insulin. From the bill:
“Prohibits health insurance companies and other carriers from setting an amount exceeding $50 per 30-day supply that a covered person is required to pay at the point of sale in order to receive a covered prescription insulin drug.”
Over 35 million Americans have diabetes and during their lifetimes almost half of black women and half of latinos are predicted to develop diabetes.
