Virginia Beach is one of the best places in the country to raise a family, according to a recent report by personal finance website WalletHub.

To find the best places in the country to bring up kids they compared nearly 200 US cities on 46 relevant metrics that were divided into five categories: family fun, health & safety, education & child care, affordability, and socio-economics.

Virginia Beach lands at 19th on the list, on the strength of its scores in the categories of health & safety and socio-economics, where the city was 19th and 20th in the country, respectively. The first category addressed things like healthcare, road safety, and crime while the second covered subjects like divorce rates, poverty rates, and employment.

Last year Wallethub called the city the 23rd best for raising a family, and earlier this year Niche said we were the 32nd best.

Other recent reports give some indication of exactly why the city can regularly place so high on these lists. According to the  people who look into these kinds of things, we’re one of the best places to find a job, and one of the best places to buy that first house. And commuting is a breeze here, making it easier to get around with kids before and after work and school. And when it comes to preparing the kids for their future, Virginia is one of the best states for education for 2022, and Virginia Beach was recently called one of the top 100 affordable cities with top schools.

The city that WalletHub calls the best to raise a family in this year is Fremont, CA, who placed in the top three of the health & safety, education & childcare, and socio-economics categories. Chesapeake was the 31st best city for raising a family this year.
