Virginia Beach: Where Safety Meets Serenity
Virginia Beach is one of the safest cities in the country, according to a new report by personal finance website WalletHub.
Methodology
WalletHub’s methodology not only offered a detailed snapshot of safety but also highlighted the complex interplay of factors that determine a city’s overall safety rating.
The study compared 182 cities, including the 150 most populated U.S. cities and at least two of the most populated cities in each state. The evaluation was based on three key dimensions: Home & Community Safety, Natural-Disaster Risk, and Financial Safety. Within these dimensions, 41 relevant metrics were considered, each graded on a 100-point scale, where 100 represented the highest level of safety. These metrics ranged from crime rates such as murders, assaults, and thefts per capita, to elements like the presence of terrorist attacks, emergency service personnel per capita, and road quality.
In the Home & Community Safety category, factors such as the perception of safety, drug poisoning deaths, and even road quality were scrutinized. Natural-Disaster Risk evaluation included elements like earthquake, flood, hail, hurricane storm-surge, tornado, and wildfire risk levels. The Financial Safety dimension considered metrics like unemployment and underemployment rates, poverty rates, and even personal bankruptcy filings per capita.
Data for these metrics were obtained from multiple sources including the U.S. Census Bureau, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Results
Nashua, New Hampshire, has emerged as the safest city this year, according to WalletHub. In the Home & Community Safety category, Nashua is in the 8th position. Nashua’s impressive 8th rank in Financial Safety highlights the city’s stable economic landscape, providing residents with financial security and opportunities. The city secures the 27th spot in the Natural Disaster Risk category. This achievement underscores the city’s preparedness and strategic planning to mitigate the impact of natural calamities, ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
Virginia Beach has been recognized as the 12th safest city in the United States this year. In the Home & Community Safety category, Virginia Beach secured the 11th spot. Virginia Beach earned the 44th position in Natural Disaster Risk, showcasing its resilience in the face of potential environmental challenges. While the city faces some natural disaster risks, its preparedness measures and disaster response protocols have contributed to its ranking. In the Financial Safety category, Virginia Beach secured the 63rd position, which, while strong, indicates room for improvement in economic stability and financial security.
In Virginia Beach, community initiatives, neighborhood watch programs, and more have created an atmosphere where safety is paramount, giving residents peace of mind.
The city’s emergency services have played a pivotal role in maintaining Virginia Beach’s safety. Their efficiency, combined with advanced technology and comprehensive training, ensures swift responses during emergencies, making the city a safe haven for its residents.
The city organizes numerous community engagement programs, fostering a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. Through neighborhood events, town hall meetings, and workshops, residents actively participate in shaping the safety protocols, creating a strong sense of community solidarity.
Virginia Beach’s recognition as one of the safest cities in the U.S. isn’t just a title; it’s a reflection of the city’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its residents. Through low crime rates, efficient emergency services, active community engagement, and meticulous natural disaster preparedness, Virginia Beach has crafted a haven of safety for its residents.
