Getting Your Virginia Fishing License: A Step-by-Step Guide with Fees and Tips
Fishing is a popular pastime in Virginia, with plenty of opportunities to catch a variety of fish species in the state’s numerous bodies of water.
If you’re planning on fishing in Virginia, it’s important to obtain a fishing license. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to obtain a Virginia fishing license using the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources website.
With your fishing license in hand, you’ll be ready to explore the state’s lakes, rivers, and streams and enjoy a day of fishing in the great outdoors.
- First, review the regulations at the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources website at https://dwr.virginia.gov/fishing/regulations/licenses/
- Go to Go Outdoors Virginia and select Licenses & Permits. If you’re a new customer, you will need to create an account (don’t worry, it’s easy), so click “Enroll Now.” You’ll be asked to input your date of birth, last name, and last four digits of your social security number. Submit the form, then click “Yes, create an account.”
- You will be redirected to a page where you will need to input your information and click “Create Customer.”
- Next, you will need to select the type of license you want to purchase and the duration of the license.
- You will also need to provide additional information such as the type of gear you will be using and the bodies of water you plan to fish in.
- After you have provided all the necessary information, you will be prompted to pay the fee for your fishing license.
- Once your payment has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email with your fishing license and a copy will also be available in your account on the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources website.
That’s it! You are now ready to go fishing in Virginia. It’s important to note that fishing licenses are required for anyone over the age of 16 who is fishing in Virginia’s public waters, so be sure to obtain your license before hitting the water. Happy fishing!
