Luxury Living in Hilltop: The Canopy Apartments

More luxury apartments are soon coming to Hilltop in Virginia Beach, as construction is poised to begin on The Canopy later this year.
Leading the project is local developer The Franklin Johnston Group of Virginia Beach. Their plan involves demolishing existing structures along Laskin Rd. between Fremac Dr. and Winwood Dr. to make room for 132 luxury apartments and a 6-story, 50,000 square foot office building topped by a 7,500 square foot rooftop restaurant.

The plan also includes the construction of 10,000 square feet of destination retail, and an additional 15,000 square foot restaurant to be located at the corner of Laskin Rd. and Winwood Dr.
The development will also feature a 230-space parking garage with rooftop amenities exclusive to residents of the apartments and lofts. There will also be 165 surface parking spaces, and a garden park.

The project received initial approval from City Council in September 2022 and is expected to cost $80 million.
The Franklin Johnston Group intends to house their corporate offices within the office tower when complete. Atlantic Union Bank has also expressed interest in establishing executive offices within the development, and the destination retail spaces are expected to be home to a unique fast casual lunch spot, a boutique clothing store, and a wine shop.
