CNBC has just released its annual report on the best states for business, and Virginia has fallen from number one—but not very far.
To find the best states for business CNBC compared the 50 states using 88 key metrics across 10 categories, with the heaviest-weighted categories being Workforce; Infrastructure; Cost of Doing Business; Economy; and Life, Health, and Inclusion.
This year Virginia has dropped to third from the top spot that it occupied last year, and where it’s been five times since CNBC first began conducting the study in 2007—more than any other state. Our highest scores were in the categories of Infrastructure and Workforce, where we were 9th and 11th, respectively.
The top state for business this year was our neighbor North Carolina, who had the highest rated economy in the country, and also had strong Workforce scores.
