The wait is over! Since the announcement of its return to Virginia Beach, music fans had been eagerly awaiting news about who would be performing at Pharrell’s Something In The Water 2023.
With less than two months to go before the three-day event, the lineup for the region’s most highly anticipated music event of the year has finally been announced, and it’s packed with a diverse array of top performers from a wide range of musical genres.
The Headliners
Something In The Water 2023 (April 28-30 at the VB Oceanfront) boasts an impressive lineup of headliners, each bringing their own unique sound and style to the stage.
Hip-hop legends Wu-Tang Clan and Lil Wayne are sure to deliver high-energy performances that will get the crowd hyped up and rapping along to their iconic hits. On the other end of the musical spectrum, Mumford & Sons will bring their signature blend of folk and rock to the festival, showcasing their dynamic musicianship and heartfelt lyrics.
Machine Gun Kelly will bring his signature punk-infused rap to the stage, and fans of electronic music will be excited to see Skrillex, the Grammy-winning producer and DJ known for his boundary-pushing sound and electrifying live shows.
One of the most exciting aspects of Something in the Water festival is the possibility of surprise headlining acts during the Pharrell’s Friends set. In past festivals, this set has been the highlight of the show, with Pharrell bringing out some of the biggest names in music to perform alongside him. In 2019, Pharrell surprised fans with Jay-Z, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Charlie Wilson, and Tyler, the Creator. We can’t wait to see which surprise guests will make an appearance this year.
Up-And-Comers
In addition to the headliners, Something In The Water 2023 will feature a number of emerging artists who are poised to make a big impact in the music world, each of whom has already been making waves with their unique sound and powerful lyrics.
Some of the newer acts we’re most looking forward to:
Flo Milli:
Flo Milli is an up-and-coming rapper from Mobile, Alabama. She gained popularity with her debut single “Beef FloMix,” which went viral on TikTok and quickly amassed millions of streams on various platforms. Known for her energetic flow and confident lyrics, Flo Milli has been praised for her ability to seamlessly blend elements of trap, pop, and R&B in her music. With a rapidly growing fanbase and critical acclaim, she is quickly becoming one of the most exciting new voices in hip hop.
Ayra Star:
Ayra Star is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and model who burst onto the scene in 2021 with her debut EP “Ayra Starr.” The EP features a blend of Afropop and R&B, with lyrics that touch on themes of love, growth, and empowerment. Born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, Ayra Star was discovered by Nigerian music icon Don Jazzy and signed to his label, Mavin Records. Since then, she has released a number of singles and collaborated with other prominent Nigerian artists. With her unique voice and style, Ayra Star is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young talents in the Nigerian music scene.
Wet Leg:
Wet Leg is a British indie rock band that formed in 2019. The duo consists of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, who met while working at a tea shop on the Isle of Wight (UK). Their debut single, “Chaise Longue,” quickly caught the attention of music fans and industry insiders alike, with its catchy riffs and irreverent lyrics. Since then, the band has released a handful of singles and made their live debut in 2021, earning praise for their energetic performances and unique sound. With influences ranging from post-punk to pop, Wet Leg is a band to watch in the coming years.
Coi Leray:
Coi Leray is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter hailing from New Jersey. With a distinctive flow and playful style, Coi Leray has been making waves in the hip-hop world. She gained popularity with her 2021 single “No More Parties,” which received critical acclaim and landed her on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Since then, she has released several successful singles and collaborated with fellow artists such as Lil Durk and Pooh Shiesty. With her unique sound and growing fanbase, Coi Leray is definitely one to watch in the music industry.
d4vd:
Seventeen-year-old d4vd (pronounced “David”) is a rising American rapper and producer from Long Beach, California. He first gained attention with his 2020 single “Run Away,” which showcased his confident flow and hard-hitting beats. Since then, he has continued to release a steady stream of singles and collaborations, building a dedicated fanbase and earning praise from critics. d4vd ‘s music is characterized by his unique blend of West Coast rap and trap, with lyrics that touch on themes of street life, personal struggles, and triumph over adversity. With his raw talent and drive, d4vd is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the rap game.
The Kid LAROI:
The Kid LAROI is a young Australian rapper, singer, and songwriter. Born Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, he began his music career in 2018 and quickly gained a following with his unique blend of rap and pop. In 2020, he released his debut mixtape “F*ck Love,” which featured collaborations with Juice WRLD and Marshmello, among others. The mixtape became a massive hit, reaching the top 10 on the charts in multiple countries. The Kid LAROI’s music is characterized by his emotive lyrics, catchy melodies, and raw honesty, with themes that touch on his personal struggles, relationships, and the ups and downs of fame. With his talent and energy, The Kid LAROI is poised to become one of the most exciting young artists in the music industry.
Black Sherif:
Black Sherif is a Ghanaian singer and rapper whose music blends African sounds with contemporary hip-hop and R&B. His lyrics often touch on issues such as poverty, social inequality, and the struggles of everyday life. Black Sherif’s breakout hit “Second Sermon” became a viral sensation on social media, earning him international recognition and solidifying his place as one of Ghana’s most promising young artists. With a growing fanbase both in Ghana and beyond, Black Sherif is poised to become a major force in the world of African music.
