Norfolk International Airport recently announced on twitter that it saw a record number of passengers in 2022, with over 4 million for the first time.

The amount of air travel at Norfolk International Airport (ORF) has seen a steady increase over the past few years. In 2019, the airport welcomed over 2.8 million passengers, a significant increase from the 2.5 million passengers in 2018.

This growth can be attributed in part to the airport’s expanding list of destinations, as well as increased frequency of flights to popular destinations like New York City and Atlanta. The airport’s convenient location and strong partnerships with major airlines have also contributed to its success.

Another factor that has contributed to the growth of air travel out of ORF is the addition of budget airlines Breeze and Spirit, offering one-way domestic flights that are often well under $100 dollars.

Last month Breeze offered “Bucket List Destination” sale prices on flights to places like New York, Las Vegas, and New Orleans that started at just $39.

Deals like these have made it easier for travelers to find flights to their desired destinations at convenient times, and at a price they just can’t resist.

And it looks like more records are expected soon. The airport’s master plan is a study undertaken to ensure the facility can meet future air travel needs. It’s updated every ten years, and the latest version includes the addition of an entirely new concourse, most likely within the next twenty years.
