Casinos are finally coming to Virginia, after residents in four cities voted for adding the entertainment option, and for adding the thousands of permanent jobs and millions in tax revenue that casinos are expected to bring to their localities.
Hampton Roads will be adding two of the state’s first casinos, across the Elizabeth River from one another.
In Norfolk, the Pamunkey Indian Nation has plans to build a $700 million full-featured resort casino in the heart of the city at the waterfront, next to and overlooking the baseball stadium. The preliminary plans called for up to 4,500 slot machines and up to 225 gaming tables. The full-service hotel would have around 500 rooms, and the site will include a 750 seat entertainment venue.
In Portsmouth Rush Street Gaming has plans for a $300 million casino project to be located on Victory Boulevard. Rivers Casino Portsmouth will feature gaming along with concert venues, restaurants, conference space, and a hotel.
