Virginia Makes It Easier To Vote

Stay up to date with the latest.

Like The Beach, the state has been taking on a new complexion lately, and among the most important changes are those that make it easier to participate in our local democracy. Below are the 3 major changes to voting in Virginia effective July 1.

Election Day Is Now A State Holiday

SB 601 and HB 108 (identical) make election day a state holiday, and end Lee-Jackson Day observance.

Absentee Ballots Available For All

HB 1 permits any Virginian to vote with an absentee ballot without the need to provide an excuse.

No Picture ID Needed To Vote

HB 19 removes the requirement to present a picture ID in order to vote.
